The Problem
Integrated engineering solutions from PPS solve the whole problem, not one slice of it. Most product problems cross lines. A part that fails in the field is a design, test, supplier, and cost problem at once. When each piece goes to a different vendor, nobody owns the result. Handoffs lose information, a fix in one area breaks another, and the schedule absorbs every gap. The cost shows up as rework, repeat prototypes, and launches that slip while each vendor finishes its part.
The PPS Approach
Our product development solutions fall into three groups. Product development covers R&D, prototyping, reverse engineering, and HALT testing. Manufacturing optimization covers value engineering, machine design, and DFMA for lean production. Strategic solutions cover engineering project management and sustainable product design. Most problems need two or three of these at once, and they share one plan. One team runs them all. Each card below opens the page for one problem.
R&D · Root cause and concepts
Prototyping · Builds that prove
HALT Testing · Find weak points
Value Engineering · Lower unit cost
Why one team instead of a vendor for each step? Because the steps depend on each other. A prototype is only worth building if the design was checked first. A test result only helps if someone feeds it back into the design. Each step uses what the last one learned. A cost change only holds if the loads and tests still check out. We engineer it. Our partners build it. You run it. Every solution is delivered as engineering, with partner shops and labs for build and test.
The goal is not a report or a stack of test data. It is a solution that works, at the lowest total cost. Our integrated engineering solutions team works beside our FEA, CFD, and design engineers. So analysis, builds, testing, and cost all point at the same answer. Nothing is handed off without the data behind it. You approve the data at each gate. You own the IP by default, set in your contract.
The 34% less rework, 51% fewer prototypes, and 37% shorter test phase figures are from the PPS Innovation Edge white paper.

Which integrated engineering solution does my problem need?
Integrated engineering solutions should be chosen by the problem you see, not by a list of services. Start with the symptom. A failure keeps coming back. Prototypes keep failing. A part has no drawings or supplier. Products pass spec tests, then fail in the field. Or cost climbs. Picking the wrong fix costs twice: once for the work, and again for the delay it causes. A new prototype alone will not find a root cause, and a cost-down will not fix a field failure. The GAO's review of knowledge-based practices ties recurring cost increases and delays to programs that move ahead before they know enough.
Each symptom points to a solution. Research and development finds root causes. Prototype development checks the design before each build. Reverse engineering brings legacy parts back. Reliability engineering services find weak points with HALT. Value engineering and machine design cut cost and downtime. Engineering project management keeps your programs in one loop. One team runs them together, and the free assessment tells you where to start.
Too many engineering vendors on one program? Why use one team?
Integrated engineering solutions put one team on the whole problem. Separate vendors each own one piece, so nobody owns the result. Each vendor did its job. The design firm hands off to the prototype shop. The test lab reports a failure. Then a cost-down changes a part nobody retested. Each handoff loses information, and each fix can break something another vendor already finished. Your team ends up managing the gaps on its own, and the schedule pays for every one. The Defense Department's IPPD Handbook organizes programs around integrated product teams to close these gaps, with design, build, and test working to one plan.
With our team, one engineer carries the problem from the first review to the final fix. The engineer who checked the design plans the prototype, reads the test results, and makes the change. Cost changes are checked against loads and test data before you approve them. You get one plan, one set of gates, and one point of contact. Problems get fixed while they are still cheap.
Can PPS work with our manufacturer or test lab?
Yes. Our integrated engineering solutions work with the shops and test labs you already know and trust, or with our partner network. Many programs use both kinds. What matters is that one engineering team ties them together, so every party works from the latest design and the latest data.
When each vendor reports to you on its own, you become the integrator. Changes travel by email, parts get cut to old drawings, and test results arrive with nobody tasked to act on them. NASA splits its project life cycle into phases with a decision point at each boundary. Our gates work the same way.
We manage your builders and test labs inside one engineering loop. We release the design, track each prototype and test, read the results, and make the fix ourselves. NDAs cover every party from the start of the program. You decide how far we take the design, up to the start of production. We never run production, and you own the IP by default, set in your contract.
What do you need from us to start?
To start a project with our integrated engineering solutions, send what you have, in any format. That usually means a clear statement of the problem, CAD or drawings, and the parts themselves if the problem is a legacy part. Add test results, failure or service history, and your targets for cost, life, schedule, or launch. Missing data is the most common reason engineering projects stall, because a model built on guessed inputs gives a guessed answer. That is why we don't start the work until every data set is in.
Once it is, the first step is a free assessment of your project scope. We confirm what the work can and can't answer, and tell you what is still missing. Then we send a roadmap proposal with scope, targets, and approval gates. Every project is scoped on its own, so the roadmap sets the schedule, not a stock promise. NDAs are available before you share any files. For gaps in material data, NIST material measurement data is a good first stop.
Who owns the design and the models?
You own the design, the drawings, and the models from your integrated engineering solutions project by default, as set in the contract. When an OEM or partner manufacturer is involved, the contract spells out who owns what. Some firms keep the models, or license them back to you, so every later change sends you back to them. That locks your product to one vendor and makes design reviews harder, because your team can't open the evidence behind the decisions. You receive the native CAD, the drawings, the simulation model files, and the documented results. Your engineers can then check the work, rerun a load case, or hand the package to a supplier or customer.
We sign mutual NDAs before any of your data is shared, and your files stay in our controlled project folders while we work. If your program has export-control or customer data rules, tell us at the start and we will set up the data handling to match them. For defense programs, the State Department ITAR guidance sets the rules we follow.
What happens if a prototype fails in test?
If a prototype fails in test, we find out why and fix the design. Hard engineering carries unknowns on any project: real loads, material lots, and assembly effects never match a model perfectly. With integrated engineering solutions from PPS, you approve the data at each gate. A test result is then checked against predictions you have already seen, not a black box. A failure in test is data. It shows which assumption was wrong: a load, a material property, or a boundary condition. That data improves the model and the design.
When testing is in scope, we plan the test to confirm the margins that matter most. Then we correlate the model to the results, following ASME verification and validation practice. If the miss was ours, because something slipped through our QC review, we fix it. If the test uncovers a condition nobody knew about, we scope the change with you and update the roadmap. Either way, you get a clear answer and a path to a design that holds.
How are integrated engineering solutions priced?
We price integrated engineering solutions to the value they deliver, not the hours we log. Hourly billing rewards extra iterations, so the cheapest quote often becomes the most expensive project once tooling, rework, and field failures show up. Our incentive is to get the design right the first time. We engage by fit, not as a ladder. Gold (from $35K): you have one project and need help with it. Platinum (from $15K/mo): you have recurring work at a steady rhythm. Diamond (from $800K/yr): you have a long development program, often multi-year.
Gold is never required, and some clients start at Platinum or Diamond. These are starting points, not quotes; your roadmap sets the price. We price to the value we deliver, not the hours we log. If the value isn't there for you, we'll say so in the assessment. Our engineering consultant pricing page explains how each collection works in more detail.
